The goats, a game played from start to finish
A “what if” projected into the real world, and at the end, a plan of possible actions. It all starts from an observation: eco-grazing and eco-friendly habits stay at the scale of whoever starts them. Here is what the Capteur made of it, step by step, in a game played on 17 October 2026.

The starting point
- The observation
- Many individual or local ecological actions, such as eco-grazing or everyday eco-friendly habits, remain confined to the scale of whoever starts them and struggle to spread more widely.
- The “what if”
- What if our public institutions took account of wildlife, plants and our ecosystems (rivers, glaciers, springs, forests…), and gave them representation as “agents of the living world”, for voluntary ecological and educational action?
- The novum, reframed by the Capteur
- Establish ecosystems as delegates of the living world to public authorities, with legal representation in decision-making and in ecological action.
The game, step by step

The hypothesis
The Capteur checks the observation against sourced figures, breaks the “what if” down into actions, then reframes it: a mission, a novum, a tension, a scale. Here, the scale chosen is that of public institutions and the territory they influence, where decisions affect a whole community.

The game
The system is played out in cards. 13 actors retained, from the appointed guardians of the living world to local authorities, by way of economic actors and developers, mutual and commercial insurers, and environmental judges. 11 flows say what circulates between them.

The pathways
7 pathways retained, each with its role: the lead card (institutional delegates of the living world), sensors and a digital twin of ecosystems, a shared eco-risk fund, a citizens’ assembly of the living world, hands-on field workshops, an international network of living labs and, at the frontier, a legal status for the non-human living world. 21 real precedents support them, checked online.

The measure
Grounding in reality (RRL): 6.6 out of 10, “grounded, not yet operational”. Spread potential (PRL): 5.0 out of 10, “can spread under certain conditions”. With the roadmap, the projected measure rises to 7.4 and 6.7; once the blockers are settled with the expert, to 7.4 and 7.0, provided the milestones are met.

The roadmap
One step per pathway, from a first move within a month (find a willing territory and a first ecosystem for which guardians could be appointed) to the heading, three to five years out: a national framework law that recognises the legal personhood of several ecosystems and makes delegates of the living world the norm.

The Novum map
The map draws the system: what accumulates (ecosystems with representation, trust in the guardians, the eco-risk fund), what circulates, the loops, the brakes. It brought out 5 blockers, including how representatives are appointed and the delegate’s independence from private co-funders. The Capteur’s expert proposed a plan for each one.
